Whitewater City Council approves Parks and Open Space Plan for 2026 and beyond.

Whitewater’s Open Space Plan: A Vision for Our Parks and Natural Areas

Whitewater’s parks, trails, and natural areas play a key role in our community’s quality of life. From neighborhood parks to trail connections and natural spaces, these places support recreation, environmental health, and community connection. To plan responsibly for the future, the City of Whitewater has developed an Open Space Plan to guide how these spaces are protected, improved, and connected over time.

Why the Plan Matters

As Whitewater continues to grow and evolve, the Open Space Plan helps the City plan ahead rather than react to change. The plan provides a clear framework to:

  • Protect important natural areas and open spaces

  • Improve parks and trail connections throughout the community

  • Ensure access to recreational opportunities for all ages and abilities

  • Prioritize projects and investments based on community needs

Planning for a Healthy, Connected Community

Well-planned open spaces support physical and mental health, protect waterways and natural resources, and strengthen neighborhood connections. The Open Space Plan balances recreation and conservation to ensure Whitewater’s parks and natural areas remain welcoming, sustainable, and resilient.

Looking Ahead

The Open Space Plan will guide park improvements, land preservation efforts, and grant-supported projects across Whitewater in the years ahead. By planning today, the City is investing in the long-term health, character, and livability of the Whitewater community.
